This is a heads up for everyone to mark
your calendars for your summer vacation
June 5-10 2005
in Seagrove, North Carolina, USA.

I have just returned from discussing the
Seagrove International Ceramics Conference and
I am overwhelmed with the quality of it.

Just a few names to whet your curiosity ...

Alan Caiger-Smith, (lustre ware) from the UK
Marino Morret, (majolica) from Italy
Thancoupie and Joe Bosco, aboriginal ceramic artists from Australia
Jingdezhen and Longquan potters from China ....
... potters from Ecuador, Austria and Canada
Nepalese traditional potters.

demonstrating, lecturing, mingling .... pit, raku, gas and wood firing.

Pig pickins and southern fried chicken to the tunes of bluegrass bands!!

That doesn't even begin to take in the fun of visiting the
potteries along the roadside in Seagrove ... about 100 of them.

There will be so much happening it will
be a worthy challenge to do it all.

It is distressing that Elizabeth did not hear about his festival on Clayart.
I have posted about it twice and they have posted at least twice.

Also, at NCECA Baltimore .... they had a brochure in every
attendees packet and a booth in the exhibitors hall.

Everyone connected with this festival is determined to get the word out
to potters everywhere that this is going to be a once in a lifetime
opportunity to see these potters at work.

This might well be Thancoupie's last trip outside Australia.

This conference will be held in Seagrove, NC within a few miles of one of the
largest groups of working potters in the United States. The dates are from June 5
through the 10th with the Seagrove Tradition Celebration on June 11-12th.

Potters from China, Nepal, Italy, Australia, Ecuador,Canada, the USA and the UK will
be sharing their techniques and knowledge.

There will be demonstrations, firing a two chamber wood kiln, kiln building,
lectures and presentations.
Fabulous Southern Meals with Bluegrass Music.

If you miss this, you will really be missing a premier potting event!!

I was pretty much off clayart for the last year havng the baby.
I heard about it when it was in the planning stages about two years ago
and decided to attend then.

See you there.

What a weird experience...!?! I definitely heard
that distinctive sound track from "The Good, the
Bad and the Ugly" (or one of those other
spaghetti westerns of the same vintage) when
reading that answer to Chris Campbell's mail!

Maybe it is simply a symptom of what envy will do
to the brain... First NCECA and now all these
other great meetings with zillions of Claybuddies
milling around. Oh well... I shall just have to
make do with a day trip down the coast in June,
if I am back from Germany in time.

Sincerely

Janet Kaiser

Tom Turner says the Seagrove area is "American's Mashiko." He
is going to move his pottery to the area. For me, when I think about
where I'd go if I moved back to the States, I think of Minnesota,
Hawaii, or N. Carolina.

I have the link to the conference at my visual
bookmarks: http://hankos.blogspot.com/

I realized I misspoke: Tom said he was going to move his pottery
to N. Carolina, not specifically to Seagrove. Sorry!

I didn't realize there were several pottery communities in N.
Carolina. My father did his basic training in the Army in N. Carolina
and always talk fondly of the State and its people. So, though I have
never been there, I feel like I have a connection through my father.

Re: SEAGROVE INTERNATIONAL CERAMICS CONFERENCE
Traditions and Change
JUNE 5 - 10th 2005 in Seagrove North Carolina USA

Well folks, the pottery works for display are pouring in from
China, Equador, Australia, Nepal and England.

The famous potters from China, Australia, Nepal, Equador,
Britain, Canada, Italy and Lebanon are waiting to present their
skills to you.

The Bluegrass band is waiting, the food is planned, the kilns are ready
for stoking.

The town of Seagrove .... oldest home to American pottery is waiting.

SO ..... what is missing ???

YOU.... and YOU .... and YOU !!!

Organizers are extremely discouraged by the lack of registrations.

If things do not turn around soon, the party will not happen ... the
pottery
will be sent back .... the presenters will not be arriving.

The biggest and most exciting International pottery event in the US this
year will not happen.

This is a once in a lifetime chance to see these famous potters
assembled in one place ... teaching and sharing ...

This will not be televised demos on a remote stage ... this is up close
and personal ...
They want to be there to learn from you as well as share their skills.

Kiln building, kiln firings, demonstrations, lectures, panel
discussions.

with.

Please, if you have any interest in this conference,
