I fire my ^6 electric kiln in my basement. Because I have wooden floors
overhead I have several thermometers in the basement rafters. Over time
I've found that I can remove the insulating board box I have around 3 sides
and across the top (the controller side is left open) while firing after the
controlled cool-down to 1100 F and have some nice warm floors to walk on in
the winter. By that time any out-gassing is done and the vent system can
also be removed. The thermometers have never gone above 100 F. And yes, I
am always home.

a dusting of snow and 50 F is a warm day.
