randy's red & red degussa stains

I am trying to make an earth red tile. I have
been using ^6 ox Randy's Red, which can have the
color I am looking for - but it seems when it is too
thin it is a dark brown on my Miller45 clay. When it
is too thick, it becomes a goldish-greenish color.

I wondered if I added some Degussa red (inclusion?)
stain to the glaze if it would make it more red?

Does anyone have any experience with this, or any
alternative suggestions?

Thank you,

Gretchen Woodman

Gretchen, my experience with the red stains is that any other oxide added
with it kills the red color pretty fast, even if it's just a little bit of
another oxide.
However, the answer to every question that comes into your mind that starts
with, "I wonder if...... ", is TEST THAT IN YOUR NEXT FIRING. Always, no
exceptions, no matter what other answers anyone gives you.
