I was wondering if anybody has ever tried making "glaze cones" like
this? I am going to try it in my next firing, maybe setting the cone
in a guinomi.

Dear Lee,
If you can get into the original writings I think you will find that
this was done in some way or other by Herman Seger. It was certainly a
way of exploring the glaze spectrum at the turn of the 19th Century
and went under guise of finding Deformation Eutectics. I have a
feeling its history reaches to much earlier times, but like many
useful concepts, the origin is unknown. See also Harry Davis. "A
Potter's Alternative"
