kurt has done some wonderful casting of lids, roofs etc.
for our wood kiln at the farm.

he follows the directions to the T.
uses stainless pins in the mix.
they are as strong as anything i have ever seen.
anyone could cast an entire kiln with this
new material.
castable is a good material.

just follow the instructions.
it is like plaster or concrete.
make the wrong mix, and it fails. water, plaster, portland cement, sand,
rock, clean
materials, proper proportions. newly dated bags of material.

Hey! that's true. I have been casting the floors of my Doorless
Fiberkilns, including 16 burnerports and expansion joints...........
works a treat.

At the U of O, here in Eugene, we have cast several parts of a new
chimney for the Anagama. Make a good form and mix correctly as Mel
suggests..........precision. Those little stainless wires are called
RibTec or Fiber-Con (depending upon supplier), and stop cracks as soon
as they form.
