castable shelf life

from what we can understand, just like
plaster, airsets, cement, they all have a shelf
life.

if i were doing any project like this i would
buy dated, fresh materials. store them in a cool dry place.

far too much work and investment to buy
outdated materials. failure with cast materials
is a big time failure.

so, follow the company, engineering specs.
buy good materials.
don't wait months between building.
get it set, make the forms, have help, and
get to it.

of course i just described any building project
in the world. good materials, no long waits
between steps. good building practice.

it reminds me of a garage/ house project in
clear lake, near our farm. guy has been putting
an addition on his house and garage for almost
ten years now. all the wood has turned gray.
starting to rot. he puts up a board a month.
and the entire project is now out of square/plumb.
stupid, and it makes my teeth grind every time i
pass the place.
