Hi Ron, I have been using your beautiful Sapphire glaze and love the
depth and sparkle, It's wonderful. One problem I've been having with
it is running on the outside of bowls such that there are globs of
glaze hanging down almost to the shelf. The only reason they don't get
to the shelf is because I have a generous trimmed foot on most of my
bowls. Is there a way to adjust this glaze so that it doesn't run so
much yet still has the same wonderful qualities? If not, maybe pouring
the insides and brushing the outsides so there isn't so much glaze on
the outside? I usually dip my pieces. I fire to cone 6 electric, and
the recipe I'm using is as follows:

SAPPHIRE BLUE Revised Cone 6
37 Frit 3134
16 Custer
4 Strontium Carb
26 EPK
17 Silica

2.5 Cobalt carb
4.5 Rutile

Any suggestions gratefully received.
Thanks,

I've been using this glaze for a few years and I barely trim - just a slight
bevel and flat bottom.
Perhaps you are applying too thickly? I just dip my stuff in and out -
basically apologizing for
getting the pot wet

Hi Lou,

Sounds like you are either overfiring or it's too thick - You using large
witness cones?

You can do some experiments to stiffen the glaze - You may lose the look
you want but it's wroth a try

Reduce the frit by 1 and increase the EPK by 1 for test #1 - do it by three
for each for test #2.

Mix 500 grams of each - you can add the remainder to the glaze you have
mixed up.

After dipping some pots in 1 and 2 - mix them together and call it 1+2.
This will give a short line blend that will show if going in the direction
of adding a refractory at the expense of a melter will do the job.

Ron, yes, I'm using large self standing cones and they indicate the
kiln is firing just right, so it must be too thick. I'll try it
thinner and if that doesn't work then go to the changes you mentioned .
Thanks for your reply.
