Hi All
On the subject of plaster bats. What are the differences,
advantages/diadvantages between making plaster bats from No. 1 pottery
plaster or Hydrocal or Hydrostone. I am about to make some bats and would
appreciate any advice.

Dear Joyce,

I don't know about hydrocal, but about the plaster--you want to make sure it
is fresh. Often plaster sits on the shelves in your local pottery supplier
for months and months (if not years). If this is the case, you're better off
to buy from a lumber yard or similar store where the products move more
regularly. Buy the best they have. Even if it started out as inferior to #1
pottery plaster, fresh always trumps stale.

Good luck,
