kiln for sale....is it a scam ???

updated thu 9 dec 04

Mark Tigges on mon 6 dec 04

There is a well known fake-escrow service scam. It usually begins
with a too good to be true situation.

You might want to see this:
http://pages.sbcglobal.net/dumbmrblah/Scamming%20the%20Scammer.htm

I'm sure you realize but I feel I HAVE to point it out. There is no
logical reason to purchase a used kiln valued at 1300 to ship it
around the world.

Best regards,
Mark.

Run away, run away. This is a classic scam. He will give you a cashiers
check (or money order) and ask that you forward the balance to him. What
you will find out several weeks later is that the cashiers check is a
forgery and your bank will deduct the amount of the check from your account.

Bruce --

This is the (new/old) Nigerian car scam, AKA the "419
scam" taken to China -- at least on paper. (I've met
many hundreds of Chinese folks over the years, and
never met one with the family name "Landis.")

See
http://www.buy-and-sell-car-secrets.com/nigerian-car-scam.html
for further details, or do a web
search. The scam depends on your sending goods and/or
cash for the "overage" away before you discover that
the visually impressive cashiers check you received is
in reality bogus.

Best wishes -- Steve Slatin

Geez Louise, Bruce--this has been discussed-to-death here on Clayart (and
elsewhere on the Internet, and in newspapers, and...).

It's a scam, Scam, SCAM!

But if you don't want to sell to that guy,
lemme know--I'll sell him mine.
(He can "entrust" ME to return the balance--not!)

Bruce,

Make sure the payment is unmarked $20.00 bills.

Bruce,
Yes this is a scam. A friend of mine was contact because he was selling his vehicle. The
buyer sends a fake cashiers check and then the goal is to get you to wire the balance and
sometimes the full amount because they have decided not to purchase the product. After you
wire him the balance the cashiers check comes back as a fake and you are stuck because the
bank expects payment for the balance that was wired. I hope this is helpful. Take care and
don't except any wooden nickles.
Blessings
Mark

SCAM! Has been around for a long time. They send you a bogus cashier's
check or other bogus negotiable instrument for $5k, you send them a good
check (or money order, etc.) for $3700, but when you try to collect on
their check you can't because it was fraudulent and you are out the $3700,
plus your merchandise worth $1300 if you shipped it somewhere.

that's a long way to go for a bit of fun, :>)
but, it is almost an identical offer to one I had on a car I had on
AutoTrader for a year in the "run till sells" deal. My offer from Europe was
the same type deal, that I needed to send them a check for $6,500 !!!.
I turned into autotrader scam people along with a couple others.
BTW, ALL offers I got in a year were some type of scam or someone just
trying to price HIS car by making an offer to me. Once I said "OK" I never
heard from them again.
What a waste of time. I wound up trading it on a new car after almost a
yearof losing value while advertising through the net.

yes Bruce. it is a scam. Apparently these thieves are able to make counterfeit bank checks that go undetected by the bank. By the time they are returned to the bank, the thief is long gone and the bank holds you responsible for the money. I had the same response to a kiln for sale for $4000 and was suspicious when the guy wrote that he was not interested in more info about the kiln or in the issues of shipment. The FBI said that there where thousands of these cased reported.
Beware,
Judy
