Dear Claybuds;

The Silverado kiln, which I installed at Penland in '85 is up for sale.
Apparently, the powers-that-be have decided to replace it with
electrics. I visited this kiln in May of this year and found the kiln
essentially sound and complete, if dirty and mothballed. The kiln would
need a new pilot manifold, and, if moved and re-installed......
re-lining. Comes with all metalwork for the flue, as well as special
posting, but no shelves. estimated the cost of re-lining and
re-installing the kiln at around $5000 if I did the work. Since anyone
with an eight-foot van could move this kiln easily to its new home, I
think the $4k they will be asking for it is quite reasonable. I would
estimate the cost in 2005 for a brand new one to be $25,000. Email me
off list if you have questions, or Matt Pogatshnik at Penland

Cheers from Eugene,
Hank
