om4 vs. #6 tile clay

Hi everyone,
I was getting ready to mix a recipe and realize that I'm out of OM4. I do
have #6 Tile clay. I would like to know if others have substituted these
with each other without a real change in glaze qualities. I would like to
know what problems I should expect before I test it out. I fire cone 6
oxidation. Oh. And just to let you know. My nearest supplier is 2 hours
away so it's not like going to the grocery store. I know... I know.... How
the heck did I let myself run out.

Thanks,
Crystal

OM 4 is a ball clay while 6Tile is a kaolin, so it would most likely
change your glaze drastically. If you have KT1-4, SGP, XX Sagger, those
would probably work ok. Failing that, get 5# of OM4 sent from your
supplier via UPS. It'll cost you though - more in the shipping than the
material I'd guess
Good Luck
Cindy

Hi Crystal,

The glaze will be different but how much depends on other things - like how
much clay is in the recipe.

Send it to me and I will adjust it so it will be the same.
