electric kiln repair school???

updated sat 18 dec 04

Out of complete frustration I am ready to sign up for kiln repair school.
I want to fix my own kilns, putting in new elements and a digital read out board.
Is there a workshop anywhere to learn this "art"?
I have always taken workshops on form & function and even building a beautiful
gas kiln at Polly Beech's house but I don't see workshops for wiring electric kilns
very often..........I have been waiting days for a tech to call me back......mean while
loads of pots waiting for the birthing process of fire!
Argggghhhhh!

Sandy, Paragon is holding an advanced kiln repair seminar February 18 & 19,
2005. (Though unless you've had experience repairing kilns, you should
attend the beginning seminar. Paragon has not yet scheduled that.)

Anyone is welcome to attend the seminar, no matter what type of kiln you
own. The fee is $95. We hold the seminar in the Mesquite, Texas factory,
which is just outside Dallas.

Sincerely,

Bracker's will soon be offering a kiln repair/rebuild workshop. It has
not been scheduled yet, but it will probably be within the next year.
Dave, our kiln tech, has acquired a completely shot old electric kiln
that he will use for the workshop as a rebuild. He will also go over
troubleshooting, which is the hardest part of kiln repair, electrical
theory, wiring etc.
Paragon also has a really good school on kiln repair. It was actually
the first place Dave went 10 years ago when he started kiln repair. I'm
not sure if it's open to the general public or just distributors - Arnold?
I think Skutt & L&L have both mentioned having a class as well. Where
are you located?

Howard,

could you or a group of the electric kiln makers do a demo at next
years NCECA showing how to do simple repairs like element installs,
replacing scorched wires, minor patching, adjusting the kiln sitter
etc. I would really like to see someone who knows what they are doing
so that I the next time I have to do some of these things I will feel
more comfortable.

Millie in Md. where it is (for us) freezing cold, and the holiday
season has been successfully completed without having to use a fire
extinguisher on the hanukkiahs ( hanukkah menorahs) now I get to sit
back, relax and watch all my Christian neighbors run around getting
last minute stuff like I did 2 weeks ago.

Cynthia, I hope you will let us know when this is scheduled. Kansas is
a bit far for me, but I am definitely interested. Maybe someone in the
Chicago area would sponsor such a workshop?

I would be glad to give a kiln repair demo at NCECA. I've applied, but I
don't think NCECA feels that there is enough interest.

I've given repair demos at glass trade shows. The theme of my demos is that
kilns are simple to work on once you gain a little experience. That seems to
relieve people, especially those who own digital kilns.

Hi Cindy,
I would be interested in taking your Kiln repair class. Can you put me
down on the contact list when you get a firm date? Thanks.
