John,
I always add 3-4% lithium carbonate to my Shino glazes
and I believe lithium adds to sodium to cause a greater
deflocculation effect, even maybe an interaction, since
lithium carbonate is slightly soluble.
Maybe that is why I have experimented having to use both
to suspend those glazes.
What do you think of my hypothesis?

Ivor,
I do not use Sodium Carbonate as a Sodium donor in my Shinos
but canadian Nepheline Syenite.

Dear Edouard,
If you draw up the equations for the reactions between Water and
Lithium Carbonate and Water and Sodium Carbonate, expand them into
ionic form then calculate the balance of the ionic potential you
should get some idea of the Deflocculating Strength of the solution in
which your solids are suspended, provided you can find out how much of
each is dissolved in the water in your Shino Glazes.
A Happy Festive Season to you.
My best regards,
Ivor Lewis.
