newbie needs help!

I have seen mention of doing reduction firings in electric kilns. The
process utilizes a propane burner it introduce the carbon atmosphere
into the kiln at the correct stage of firing. The claim is that
evidently the reduction atmosphere only needs to happen at the
"correct" temp and not for all that long of a time (if I remember
correctly) I think there is a company that even manufactures such a
kiln or the equipment to retrofit an existing electric kiln, but alas I
don't know anymore than that. Have you tried Google yet or searched the
archives?

Hello Maria,

Its probably not much help but electric reduction kilns do exist: I use
one made by Carbolite. Whithout going into boring detail it uses a feed of
CO2 from a gas bottle bubbled through methanol ... something similar could
be retro fitted but I would strongly advise anyone to get an expert in as
there is, althogh very unlikely possibility, that carbon monoxide coudl be
generated if things go astray.
