Hello Clay Art,
Two years ago at The Gardener Museum in Toronto I saw a Lucie Rie video made
by the BBC. I have tried contacting the Gardener and the BBC to no avail.
Does anyone know where I might get a copy of this film?
Thanks
Adam

Hi,
David Attenborough made the film, but Emmanuel Cooper at Ceramic Review
Magazine (look on the net for email address telephone is +44 20 7439 3377)
might know where to get one. Or Maybe the Craft Potter`s shop sells it. +44
20 7437 7605.
I love it when David has to keep her from falling in. She had a sharp
tongue and a wicked sense of humour. She made good cakes as well as the
pots. Her family`s chocolate cake is the best. You know she was actually
Hungarian, not Austrian and lived on the boarder in a wonderful house.
Best,
D

Which part of the BBC did you approach, Adam? In which country?
Could be it is no longer available, as it is hardly going to be
on their best-seller list. On the other hand, was it really a
video published by the BBC or just a recording of a BBC Lucie Rie
interview? Or part of a programme about Rie? If it was shown as
part of a specific exhibition, you need to go back to the
Gardiner and ask who curated that exhibition. Also which was the
"home" gallery/museum which staged it. It is a little-known fact
that these high-profile exhibitions can be ordered, a little like
shopping from a catalogue. Saves galleries/museums, both large
and small money because it is often cheaper hiring a "ready made"
exhibition complete with catalogue, etc. than it is to stage your
own. Anyway, if you can get that "originator" information, you
will then be able to ask them.
Alternately have you checked out your local library? I am told by
a friend that ours are remarkably good at finding obscure
educational videos. Maybe yours are too?
Good luck!
Janet Kaiser -- Happy now that the days are getting longer
again!!
