June:
Brent is at http://www.brentwheels.com/jsps/brenthome.jsp
but before you call them, check to see:
1. if the fork in the foot pedal still moves the slider finger on the
potentiometer on the foot pedal.
With the cover off, as the pedal is moved, you should see parts move.
If they do, the problem is most likely a failed component in the control
box.
If they don't move, you may have a loose set screw on the fork.
I have also see the actuating finger that sticks out of the linear slide
potentiometer break off (then the whole slide pot needs to be replaced).
In any case, If you get a router speed control from Harbor Freight, it makes
a cheap speed control for a wheel in a pinch.

Dear Michael,
Thanks for the Brent web site. When I did a google search on it all that kept
coming up were addresses for dealers who sold Brent equipment!
The slider, upon first look, seemed to be working, so I don't think that's
the problem; but I'll check it again when I go down to the studio tomorrow.
That wheel is not at my home studio and I wasn't there when the problem
occurred. I was told that someone plugged another wheel into the the extension bar
that I had my wheel plugged into and turned it on and when they did, my wheel
took off like a jet! They swear that no one used the wheel while I was away,
so I can't imagine what could have happened since it was working fine the last
time I used it.
I'll call Brent and see if they can shed more light on it and maybe recommend
someone to come out and fix it.
Thanks again for the reply!
Warmest regards,
June Perry

I didn't respond the first time I saw the post, but, to help you keep from
making more than one trip, I'm sure it's the set screw on the shaft.
Happened to mine only a few days after I gt it. After I tightened it , never
happened again in a few years now.
Take with you, a small phillips driver for bottom plate screws, a small flat
blade driver to reset slow and fast pots and a set of hex drivers to tighten
the screw back down after you line up the screw on shaft again ( you'll
probably want to reset the slow and fast again , I'd reset fast a little
slower)
Also, spray a little oil on the nylon bearing the shaft turn on. It gets
filled with clay a bit. and tighten the jam nuts on the peddle to keep
peddle from being too loose or too tight.
