Re: 130% total glaze ingredients. Ok. People mix up glazes, modify =
this or that, putter and putchky--and lo and behold it now adds up to =
130 instead of 100. The 100 business is for publication. One of those =
things. I expect none of my glazes in my notes add up to 100 unless and =
until I decide to publish.
So just take your calculator and figure it out....or weigh out your =
glaze in the present proportion x 10 (130x10=3D1300) and then measure =
out 1/3. This should give close to 2000 gmrs.
As to PLASTER I am a klutz with plaster and unless I remember to wear =
a hat I end up with bald spots as I need to cut out chunks of plaster =
from my hair. Never mind, never mind. =20
In POTTERS TIPS a Ceramics Review booklet edited y Robert Fournier =
there is this suggestion (from a reader) as to how to measure plaster. =
I use it, and find it quite excellent--not that I use plaster much. =
(I.E. I have used it satisfactorily but not often.)
Find two identical plastic buckets. (Not too big; remember you will =
have to lift them when they are full)
Get a piece of lath or board ( they say you can use a yardstick, but the =
ones I find around here..advertizing freebies...are too frail)
Drill a hole in the middle of the lath or board. Put a string through =
it and hang it up. It should hang level. If not you will have to =
adjust it. You may need to redrill the hole, or a thumbtack or nail =
driven into the "lighter" side may do it.
Now make a notch 10 inches from center on one side, and 15 inches from =
center on the other. Your plaster bucket hangs from the 10 inch notch, =
the water bucket from the 15 inch notch. When the filled buckets hang =
level the right proportion for normal plaster density is reached.
NB Because I cannot lift too heavy things too high, my "balance" now =
hangs fairly low. Just far enough off the ground so I do not need to =
scrunch down to see if it is level.
Works for me.
BLACK MYSTERY STONE: It sounds like the new thing they sell at hardware =
stores. It is some sort of whoknowswhat composition for sanding wood. =
Works nicely too. I find it very useful for finishing sanding in small =
areas. The stuff comes in diverse grades of abrasiveness. Remember. =
DUST IS GENERATED. WEAR A MASK.
