I have a drill with a paint mixing attachment(kinda Jiffy Mixer)....
but the other tool I find indispensible when I'm mixing glazes
is a wire kitchen whip...the kind that have a number of differring size
wires within wires..........the bad part is.......the more expensive
stainless steel ones work best. The one that gets the most use was about 40
bucks
Canadian and was purchased at a restaurant supply house.
I mix most glazes in 20,000 g batches and was finding that I had some
resettling
while I was glazing.
The wire whips do a great job
after a quick spin with the paint mixer to start the process.
They seem to get all the gooey bits
in the corners of my square wine brewing containers that I store glaze in.
you can whip up a settled bucket of glaze in a few miutes
and they are great for glazing large amounts of pottery because you can
give the glaze a good stir just before you dip a pot, making sure
all ingredients are redistributed evenly.

Hi, Ken
No jiffy mixer. I'm sure they're excellent, but aren't they the $60-$80
ones? If I had used one, I might feel differently, but I just pick my mixers
up at Menard's in the paint dept. The one I'm talking about has a metal rod
with a plastic double fan assembly at the end. Of course, you can get metal
ones, but I save those for thinset. A few plastic shavings don't make much
difference to a batch of thinset. ;)
Best wishes,
Cindy in SD
