Now that several hours have past since I opened my kiln I am beginning to
realize it is important to step back awhile before evaluation of pots fresh
out of the kiln.
I had certain expectations or perhaps I should say hopes of how the pots
would look and my initial reaction was that I was a bit disappointed that
they did not look like what I had pictured in my mind.
But with some distance of time I am beginning to appreciate what they are.
The little shino teapots are really quite beautiful. They have lovely areas
where the orange shows through a thicker white crawl. There is a nice
variation of coloring with a satin finish. They pour without dripping. The
lids fit perfectly.
I have attached reed and cane handles (thanks to Sheila Clennell's
instructional video), I put in strainer holes after following the thread on
Clayart and they pour freely with no glaze to plug them up thanks to whoever
suggested to wet the bisque holes before glazing. I added a hole in the lid
to let in air (again a Clayart suggestion) and that works also to improve
flow.
Still haven't figured out why the Oxyprobe was so erratic and why one of the
four teapots turned out a glassy green instead of more of a white/gray satin
shino look. Could it have been in an area that did not receive reduction?
Enjoying the experience and can't wait to have another load to fire. Next
time I think I'll try Copper Reds!
Taking tea in my lovely new pot
