We have "inherited" on older top loading gas kiln of unknown lineage.
It does appear to be commercially made. The bricks and housing are in good
shape.
The burner system is shot and will have to be replaced.
We're looking for any info someone might have regarding firing this thing.
The internal dimensions are 22" sq. by 27" deep.
It has two ports in the base, fired by 8" venturi burners. There is a 6"
sq. port in the lid.
I guess our basic question would be how one would set up targets in the
bottom of the kiln.
Could we just place a square shelf on 3-4 inch bricks?
Any info you could provide will be appreciated.

Don,
The kiln style you describe sounds like the Olympic Torchbearer kilns.
There have been many postings on how to fire these from the position of the
bottom shelf to stacking and evening out the temperature. If the postings
from the archives do not answer your questions, feel free to contact me
directly.
