Does anyone remember anything about using a small galvanized garbage can =
as a saggar in an electric kiln?
I think there was an article about this years ago on CM, but I can't =
locate it........
As I recall, you needed to fire the can first to remove the lacquer or =
whatever, then use it as a saggar, sealing the lid with a coil of clay.
I this sounds familiar, please respond.......
Thanks in advance,
Pam in Seattle, where snow is threatened and I'm just awaitin' for it!

A coil of clay will not do it. It will dry and open up. If you want to
really seal it, you will need something like kaowool or some other kind of
fiber.
Is your kiln vented (and it should be)? or if you're in a separate building
can you leave windows open and then vacate. Depending on how much
combustible you're going to use, you will get some or more smoke leaking
out, even with fiber. And depending on what you've got in the sagger, it
will be more or less poisonous.
You need to protect your lungs some.
It's a good direction to experiment but make sure you're protected.
