Hi, I remember reading about these indian textile carved stamps a few years
back. They are great to work with in clay. Does anybody have any idea where
to find them? Thank Gina Mars

Hi Gina,
I use those stamps a lot. They come in different sizes
too. I usually get mine from India if I have family
travelling.
Out here I have seen them in Antique stores but not a
great variety. I have seen them being sold on ebay too
once in a while. The best source is a store in
Vancouver BC. The entire store only had these stamps
of all sizes. They were much cheaper than the other
sources I have mentioned (not cheaper than India of
course). I don't remember the name of the store but it
was in Granville Island. I am sure any folks here
familiar with Granville will know the store I am
talking about.
I will see if I can dig up their business card.. I
know I have it somewhere.
Hope this helps
Charan

I found one on Ebay a few months back. They've gotten very hot and aren't
cheap any more, or at least I haven't been able to find any bargains for the type
I wanted.
I was lucky to get a square design that I wanted from a seller in England,
but I had to pay quite a bit for it.
Most of them that I've seen are free form pattern design and many are
damaged, so you need to look really closely at what's being offered for sale.

I've seen them occasionally at a "Pier One" or "Cost Plus" store, in
California...don't know if one of those stores is near you.

There are several shops on Granville Island in Vancouver, BC that carried
indian Textile stamps (at least they had them last March.

Gina,
I have about 15 of these wooden stamps. I first ran across them in an
import store in Santa Fe many years ago. They imported a lot of "stuff"
from East Asia but I always look for them in our travels. I've found them
in Tibet, Ecuador, Peru and I think I found one in an antique shop in
London. I also found some ceramic ones in Ecuador - the animal figures on
them are fantastic.
Try to find places that import Asian furniture etc. Regular antique stores
are also a possibility.
