Chris,
EXPERIENCE! Not all use is abuse. Anyone who needs narcotics for a
prolonged time will have withdrawal symptoms, shivers/swets, stomach cramps
to mention a few but they are seldom/never fatal, unlike alcohol detox
where a pepson can die of stroke and heart attack. A lot of doctors now
have to be careful of new government guide lines as to what your right to
medical pain relife can be. "We can't let you become addicts, ya know."
I don't want to take a lot of time but, case in point, I've always been
an addict/drunk, born that way, from hernia opperations as an infant where
as an older friend who had a matal rod put in his spine became addicted
after 3 years on oxicotains. The docter gave him something else that was 3-
4 molecules different to help with withdrawal, he did not need N.A., he's
not an addict. That's when he found out his hip was bad. Depends on how
long ago your ankle was worked on. If you still have pain get another
opinion. Under medicating can be a problem too.
As for me, this is supposed to be my 3 year anniversy of getting off
nacotics before stoping the beer and here I am back on because of the
recent illness. Had 4 shots of Demeral in hospital with the blood patch for
the spinal. Excrutiating! I was getting viocodine every 4 hrs and have
a 'script for the house so I have to wright down when I take another or I
will forget. I finally went 7 hrs. The head is getting better. Might not
need a refill, but I know how to detox. I'm lucky I didn't get stuck on the
needle, just pills, and I know a lot of junkys. Just be patient, taper off,
get another opinion about the ankle and don't be ashamed if you are an
addict. That's what they got help for. Chances are you are not an addict,
but it won't be pleasent, that's just how it is.
Stay in there!
