The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts presents an Anagama Firing Workshop
May 17 =96 28, 2005
The KIA=92s Anagama is rapidly gaining a reputation for being a monster amon=
g
wood kilns. Known for its high temperatures (cone 13), over sized firebox
space, great ash development and dramatic results, the reputation is well
deserved. Master potter, Jeff Cline, who designed and built the kiln in
2000, will lead the firing. The Anagama has approximately 420 cubic feet of
stacking space, and is located about 5 miles north of downtown Kalamazoo.
The firing schedule will include three days of glazing and loading,
followed by an eight day firing. Participants will return after a week of
cooling to unload.
Each person will be allocated 20 =96 25 cubic feet of kiln space, and will
receive a list of clay bodies and slips that have been proven reliable in
this kiln. Glazes and the wood needed for the firing will be on site, and
are included in the firing fee.
The workshop is $420, which includes a $50 non-refundable registration fee.
No refunds will be given two weeks before the workshop begins.
Registration is limited.
