Yes, exactly--with the added cache of being Chinese in feeling. A lot of
the work I'm dealing with now, the 18th C stuff, is also painted...just not
with that same amazing sense of volume in simplicity.

I'm assuming you spray or dip your final clear coat, so you don't disturb
the painting?

Yes, agreed, in most cases. (I've written quite a few books on watercolor,
as well as articles focusing on the greens...mixed greens are generally much
more interesting and natural looking.)

actually, I brush it on, dipping lifts the painting off and spraying leaves a
dimply texture. you only get one shot at it.

I can paint on any clay, usually stoneware. The first glaze is the white, although
painting on a fired coat of slip is ok. It doesn't paint like rice paper, though.
