Hello All:

I just read a post from Ingeborg Foca, in Florida, saying that it will =
be almost 30 degrees F.!

I am 20 miles due North of Boston We just had a blizzard Saturday night =
and I have 3 feet of snow on the ground, and temps. in the single digits =
with a minus 15 degree wind-chill. I can't find my truck (there is a =
sort of truck-shaped blob of snow in my yard, but the plow pushed a 5 =
foot-high drift behind it. GUESS what I'm doing tomorrow??!!)

Also, my basement studio is down to 36 degrees.. I'm praying my pipes =
don't freeze, and my clay is too cold to work. There is a huge drift of =
snow up against my door, and it will start seeping through if it melts. =
(I access the studio from the staircase from upper levels of my home- =
the outside access--where I bring clay and supplies in-- is totally =
blocked with drifted snow!)

On the plus side, The Patriots made the Super Bowl!!!!! Again!!!! Isn't =
Adam the Greatest?

Speaking of super bowls, I have got to warm up the basement so I can get =
back to work. Is using the (empty) kiln as a heater a bad idea? My space =
heater keeps tripping the circuit breaker. I was thinking of running a =
cone 022 for 6 hours...

Thank you all!

First, about that circuit breaker. If it's tripping the outlet is
inadequate for the power you are pulling off of it. If you intend to
continue using it for that purpose, have an electrician upgrade the wire
and breaker. If you don't do this you will eventually start a fire.

As for using the kiln. The kiln side of my studio is unheated (though
well insulated, and ventilated). Occassionally, I've used my old
Crusader kiln to heat it up. A couple switchs on medium for several
hours did the job.

Kathi

If you have a controller, I'd set it to reach about 250 degrees and hold
for six hours.

What ever you do, don't let the wet clay or pots freeze!!! Heat with the
kiln if you have to.

Hi Melissa: Congratulations on your Patriots and congratulations to me on
my Eagles. May the force be with us. I understand that unusual weather is
another sign of global warming but if this represents warming - I'm for a
little "colding". We too have had bad weather (but not as severe as yours)
and our twelve inches of snow sounds piddling next to what you received.
But, be of good faith - and this too shall pass.....Mildred Herot

Hey,
Anyone not needing the next snow storm, please send it to Vermont where
the Snow Goddess seems to have forgotten to send much. We treasure
every inch for our winter fun and & games and my X country skiing has
been less than perfect so far. We'll take any amount!
Thanks
Jennifer

Perhaps, but not necessarily--particularly if the heater is the same one
she's always been using on that circuit. Circuit breakers (not unlike
people) can lose their grip and become trippy! It may be that it's the
breaker that needs replacement.

I had that happen with a couple breakers in my 30 year old house--most
noticeably on the kitchen circuit that powered the microwave. Those
puppies reeeeeally pull down a big starting current!
