to grog or not to grog….

Though I’ve been thinking about high firing, for now all my work is low fired. I use grogless clay for throwing and sculptural clay for hand built. I started thinking that maybe I can get stoneware body with grog and use it for everything. At the suggestion of a local retail store I tried Laguna’s Half and Half cone 5 clay and had no problem throwing it but had a bit of a hard time trimming/cleaning the bowls I made… maybe I waited too long. I usually work on grogless clay when almost bone dry…

My biggest pieces are no more than 15” would grogless clay be able to handle that? In case the answer is no, could someone direct me to a site where I could find information on how smooth the surface and trim work made with grogged clay?

Any advice?

thanks in advance,

Sincultura
