Yesterday all Nccea members got an invite for the Nceca invitional juried
teapot show. Pot due Feb 15 2005. I don't know about most folks but i think
2 weeks is a bit of a short notice for an exhibition quality t-pot. If i
have a good t-pot I sell it! My showroom 3 weeks after Christmas ain't going
to even have one that I'd send to a gallery much less an exhibition. I miss
shows all the time because of short notice. I really can't afford to keep my
best pots. I cash them in for money. I don't hold on to them awaiting a
show that might or might not be around the corner.
To bad I didn't at least know about this in December.
Cheers,
Tony

This is very unlike most NCECA Exhibitions. It is in China. I have no =20=
idea how it was organized but suspect it was popped on NCECA at the =20
last minute. Most shows NCECA does are planned in excess of two years =20=
out. Announcements go out early and the member's juried exhibition ( =20
every two years like clockwork) is announced at the previous years =20
conference and often mentioned two years before.
If you want a real answer I would suggest contacting them directly.

By the way if you have seen the exhibitions she has organized (as a =20
volunteer/ with support of her university) you will see some pretty =20
high quality exhibits, well done, and good documentaion.
Just another NCECA member. Who believes the Exhibitions have been =20
great, but has voiced his minor concerns about them with the Board =20
directly.

Louis: I'm postive it will be a great show. There is a lovely poster that
must have taken some time to produce and they booked two very prominent
potters Pete Pinnell and Gail Kendall to jury the show. I'm sure that
wasn't all done yesterday, the day I saw the call for entry. Maybe word did
go out earlier and this is just a reminder. In that case I just missed the
boat. Snooze, ya loose. If not, it is absolutely ridiculous to expect
potters that have a market for their work to have an exhibition quality
teapot ready in less than 2 weeks.
There will be many great teapots from people that have no place to sell
them. They have had them for some time now. I think very highly of both the
jurors and would like to have had the time to put my best pot forward.
I won't be phoning Texas long distance! That's the beauty of Clayart- news
travels faster, cheaper and with greater numbers.
Also got word yesterday thatClay Times is planning a show of CT writters
work in Baltimore so I'll bend Pete's ear there. It'll be nice to show with
many of my Clayart and writing buddies.
I hope the kiln devil is good to me this coming month.
Cheers,
Tony

Tony,
I agree with you on both points...studio shelves are empty after the holidays and 2 weeks is not enough time to create many teapots from which I might get one I'd even think about submitting to NCECA. Is it possible to even think this deadline could be extended? Perhaps if we all ask that it be extended the organizers may listen. One would think they'd want a broad representation of NCECA clay artists and therefore accommodate us by giving us until the end of Feb? Any other suggestions?
Althea
In NJ, housebound with a foot of snow on the ground and side roads not well plowed because NJ doesn't know how to handle a foot of snow...but it sure is pretty.
