Hi all,

I took a 2 day workshop with Randy Brodnax this past weekend at Morgan
Britt's studio in Sacramento. It was a great workshop. Randy demonstrated his
technique for producing huge, ultra-thin pots by raising a cylinder and
expanding it out from the inside using a big rig, heat gun and no water. He also
demonstrated how he alters and adds animal shapes to these pots.

Randy also demonstrated several fast firing techniques using his unique fiber
kiln. Morgan Britt purchased one of his kilns and we used it throughout the
workshop.

I was very impressed with Randy's kiln and I'm considering buying one. Can
any of you comment on his kiln design and function? I am looking for
positives and negatives to help me make a purchase decision.

Best regards,

Brad,

I have one of Randy's kilns and I love it. I only have used it for Raku and
horsehair stuff but have found it to work very nicely for that. I think Randy
bisque fires in his but I'm not ready to try that.

The kiln is well built and is holding up fine. Only trouble I've had is with
some mice or pack rats that got inside and build a nest out of the fiber.
Luckily I caught the problem before the rodents did too much damage and now I
seal all the ports and spy holes up very well when I put the kiln up.

I like my kiln a lot and think it is well worth the money. I've had mine for
at least three years.
