Dear Ray,
With respect to your slab roller try either of the following: -
1. Sand blast the rolls
2. Paint them and sprinkle coarse sand onto the paint while still wet.
When dry, paint one thin layer over the top. We used to make deck paint
for sail boats that way.
3. You might also try surf board wax.
