Thank you to all who sent info on wax resist and what tools work best. For this project I ended up using a tiny stiff brush for the liquid wax with food coloring added. It worked great and I only had to do a little clean up whether I dipped pieces or painted on glaze. I learned a good lesson too. I ended up using a lighter oatmeal glaze on the white clay, so there is very little contrast of my incised vine pattern. Next time I will use a darker glaze for more contrast. I also think for what I am doing, sgrafitto might be the logical way to go too. The outcome is that I am still learning the best way to do things for me, and the pots look great, subtle, but a good result. Thank you all, I have printed out the responses to keep in my files.
