I have been looking into how to control the rise and fall of the
temperature in our kiln for some time now. A couple of months ago I
purchased this unit
(www.embeddedrf.com/Refractory_Oven_Products/PID_Form/e5ax/temp_controller_and_pc_software.htm
)
but so far I have not been able to install it in our big "firemate"cress
kiln because the kiln's automatic features interfere with the operation
of the controller, so I haven't been able to test the software of the
unit . As soon as I hook it up to our small Duncan with stepless
infinite controls (I'm rebuilding it) I will report back to those who
might be interested.
I would also like to thank all those who volunteered their time and
expertise and very good will at the Mendocino workshop!

I have been using a couple of older electric kilns that have been serving
me well. What seems to foul up the best of plans to manage a soak or
controlled cool down is my endless ability to be distracted. I was searching
around the internet and this list for an economical solution to the standard
kiln controlers often sold with new kilns. There is a product sold by
embeddedrf that can be added to a manual kiln. It controls the kiln temp and
keeps records on a PC. Have any of you tried this product and if so what do
you have to report. The cost of this controler is $175 and it appears to do
much more than most controlers. The old addage if it seems to good to be
true was my first thought but then I got a positive report from Konstantin
who is a member of this list and also a gentelman in Australia who is very
happy with his set up.
