I have used slips at c.6 forever--as I only work at c.6. Wood ash =
sprinkled on will melt into a reasonably molten glaze. Prob. it would =
sit and look pitiful on a matt/dry glaze, but I have had rather spiffy =
effects on shiny ones.
There is this frightful deprivation-myth going round. Ah, poor me, I do =
not have A, B, C! Alack! Alas! Poor me!
This applies all across the board, vide the rise in credit card debt! =
But it does not bother me till high firers start working at c.6! C.6 =
electric has a world of possibilities, at least as many as c.10 =
reduction. Either get a second-job to support your highfire habit, or =
accept the to-you-brave-new-world of c.6.
Lepidolite as has been said is a lithium spar, poorer in lithium than =
spodumene & petalite. It's fluorine content makes it behave like =
fluorine containing materials--can cause pitting etc, needs good =
ventilation when firing--but I either would try a recipe, or substitute =
lepidolite for another spar in small amounts to GET that effect, and =
recalculate the glaze at need.
I do not care if that worm kid was fat or thin. So what? (Remember =
Loeb & Leopold were caught because Leopold lost his very strong =
identifiable glasses! So do we feel bad for near-sighted criminals?) =
Worm Boy was not taught that you respect the property of others, and do =
not vandalize. Wiseacres like WormBoy are excused from juvie because =
they are so smart! Lookie so bright! Meanwhile when the kid across =
town who lives in a broken down street and goes to a school that has no =
computers, takes his ingenuity out in stealing parts from parked cars =
and selling them to "chop" stores goes to jail. And Mom gets a lecture =
from Social Services!
If I had my druthers the parents of Worm Boy would be hauled up for =
child abuse and child neglect. Abuse because not raising a child =
properly is abusing it, just as much as not feeding it properly, and =
neglect because where the heck were they when Worm Boy did his thing?
