glaze calculations . girls v boys

I've got a glaze calc program, love it. It saves my doing a lot of math
myself. In that sense, I guess some would say it's more girlie to have a
calc program than not, as girls are not supposed to enjoy math. I am a
girl. I do not love math. Maybe that proves the truism. I do love my
calc program.

Regarding intuition, I have discovered that, in order for it to work, I
actually have to know quite a lot about the subject at hand. Glazes are
extremely complicated and unpredictable. Ivor says he wants a program
that he can feed info into, and it will print out a picture of what the
glaze will look like. Nobody knows enough about glazes to write a
program like that. (Ivor, of course, knows this.) Pity. It would be way
cool, not to mention saving a *lot* of work.

Have fun with your glazes,
Cindy in SD

Hand up. Two glaze calc thingies, (only 'cuz the first was awful....and I am
persistent), definitely female. And I don't use cookery books, but I do
collect glaze recipes, and glaze recipe books obsessively.

O.k. chaps,
hands up who has got a computer glaze calculation thingy and whether you are
male or female.
My money is on far more males than females.
Men seem to like gizmos and rules, those that can cook are a bit looser, -
but the correlations between cooking and glaze formulation are strong, they
are both bucket chemistry after all. and , just like cook books, read and
drool then improvise/improve.
But write it down.
i like playing with my computer, but i dont want it poking it's nose in my
intuition.

Hi Pat;

2 glaze calc thingies also female.

Glazemaster on my labtop to organize my recipes and it does blend
calculation quickly.

One palm pilot PDA thingie to take my recipes to go - my material analysis,
all my recipes, notes from clayart and David Hewitt's glaze workbook. If I
need to , I just pull it out of my purse and I can do an emergency
calculation on the tube.

I also cook - a lot. I take my studio skill to the kitchen once. I got good
at wedging with clay and I made some scallion pancake, I over-knead and the
pancake got very chewy.

I dice; I chop and I calculate

I use glaze calculating software, and I am a fem.
I think you may find more girls use software than you think, we do like to
keep our recipes orderly.
