hey all,
just to chime in on the salt/reduction kiln discussion. It will work but you will have to expect the effect of soda/salt on glazes, salt tends to bleach colors more(i.e.willie helix turns bueatiful green) whereas soda tends to soften and enhance colors. I personally want to build a crossdraft gas kiln in the future that will be specifically for glazed ware in the back with soda fired pots up front. I am working out the details on two kilns i am building for june perry and linda mcfarling. linda's kiln was just fired and worked very well, and hopefully will get firec a few more times before june and i build hers so we can make any modifications we want. As a side not on ITC. it works good in resisting soda, but is very expensive compared zirconium i think, Will ruggles advocates using zircon on the inside of kilns that will be salted, it works very well he says. I used it in linda's kiln and we will see how well it holds up.
