I am considering applying for a one semester leave during the spring
2006 semester. I need to locate some possible sites where I could do
short term residencies. I am thinking about four weeks in February
and four weeks in March. The residencies do not have to line up
exactly with a monthly calendar, just somewhere in those time spans.
I am looking for a reasonably private studio space and access to a
gas kiln probably but definitely a wood kiln (not fast fire). I am
reasonably quiet, don't smoke and try not to drink in excess. If you
have any ideas or suggestions based on positive experiences you have
had I would like to hear about them. thanks
Dave

Dear David McBeth,
If travel is an acceptable option why not consider the Australian
scene. Exchange rate is about 76 cents Us to the Aussie $.
You might think about Working with Dr Owen Rye at Churchill Campus. He
runs a post grad program and was at one time heavily into wood firing.
Or you might like to contact Janet Mansfield. She would have good
knowledge of other potential options.
Best regards,
Ivor Lewis.

David,
Apply to Anderson Ranch. I did a couple of months there in the Fall of
1994 and it was wonderful. Since then they have some new facilities.
YOu could get more information through their web site.
Good Luck!
