Not too long ago I asked about renting a wet saw to cut some inch and
a half square kiln posts or some other cutting option. I had several
broken posts and a number of 14" posts that were rarely used and I
would cut some of them down to sizes we used more often.
After reading through the suggestions, I went with an abrasive disk
for cutting concrete. The 10" disk to fit my miter saw cost about $12
- a much better price than almost $50 for a wet/dry diamond saw.
I wore safety goggles, respirator, leather gloves, heavy jacket -
just in case that abrasive blade decided to fly apart - and did the
cutting outside. This was dry cuts and made lots of dust.
All went well. Took my time, went slow and most of the cuts were
fairly smooth and the blade cut through with no problem. A few of the
posts apparently had been fired many times cause they were harder and
took more passes to get through.
The disk/blade still has lots of wear left on it and I'll have it
should I need to cut more posts in the future.
Bill, in Fredericksburg, VA, where it got cold again yesterday after
a few days of mid 50's - guess spring was just winking at us.
