floor wax

Using floor wax as wax resist is fine. I used to use it when I lived in
Canada and didn't live near a pottery supplier. Commercial wax resist is
better simply because it has a greater wax to water ratio than floor wax.
Both are simply emulsions of wax & water or other solvent which evaporates
when spread thin, but of course you don't want a very thick layer of wax
on your floor so that stuff is thinner. The amount of wax left on your pot
is actually greater if you use candle wax or commercial wax resist but I
have never heard of anyone having a problem with any of them, although you
have to be careful to get full coverage with floor wax & may need an extra
coat. Candle wax is OK for dipping but a pain to brush as it sets too fast.
