I turned on the kiln -natural gas downderaft controlled by a single lever
and a Basso valve- and the gauge needle started swinging in an unsteady
jerky mannner. Is it the gauge, water in the gas line, a blockage or what?
Does anyone know what is the cause. No wild guessing please.

I would remove the guage and have it tested, then that would eliminate or
confirm a problem with it, or get hold of another guage and substitute and
see if the same thing happens.
