Hello All. Just unloaded a kiln full of 'experiments'. I had mixed up two
batches of Mouse Brown, one with some very old GB that had been left here in
a coffee tin in 2001. The other subed Boraq straight across. I had glazed
one small bowl each of them using Plainsman M390 and M370. Luckily I put
some 'run catchers' under them. The bowls using the M390 clay (dk brown
stoneware) both looked exactly the same, glaze was matt, metallicy browns,
green specks, ran a little but not past the foot. However...the bowls with
the M370 (a white stoneware) were totally stuck on their discs, basically
orange, a rough surface, metallic green specks. It was interesting that
there was no diffrenece between the GB glaze and the one with the Boraq. You
would never imagine that it was the same glazes on the two colors of clay.
Now all I have to do is figure out how to get these bowls cut off their
discs.
