hello,
i have been reading this list for a little while. i am a beginning pottery student. i have a wheel, some clay, and some how to books. i have read a potter's book, a potter's handbook by clary illian and a few others. i have been practicing on the wheel for a few months now and am making slow, very slow, progress. what i obviously need is a teacher.

i currently live just outside seoul, in south korea. there are quite a few potters here but i am having a few problems finding a teacher. one is the language barrier, but i think this can be overcome. the other is that the very good wheel throwing potters (the "intangible cultural heritage" ones) i meet are not interested in teaching anyone but a very advanced serious understudy, and understandably so. the other group i run into most is women who have little shops in the basements of apartment buildings. they are very kind, speak english a bit usually, but are mostly into hand made objects, not wheel throwing.

i am aware of the major pottery centers in korea, and the upcoming ceramics fair in ichon, and they are great places and events. but does anyone have any leads that i could use to try and find a teacher? i have been searching for awhile and i make a little progress but then it doesnt work out, hence why i just bought my own wheel. i am mostly interested at this moment in learning about form and making shapes.

just in case, i live in bundang, southeast of seoul, about 40 minutes. i also teach english so my time and travel is limitted but i would travel to get a lesson once a week or even a month, because i can practice at home.

also, anyone with any interesting informaiton about pottery and korea that they could pass along would be great too! or book recommendations if my teacher search continues!

thanks,
samm
