Hi Susan,
The kiln is electric, it has a kiln sitter, comes in round sections which
come apart, is about 8 years old but has been fired only 8 times. The
condition is perfect, and I bought it 4 years ago with the idea of using it
when we moved house. However, we never moved, and the kiln is still sitting
in the crawl space, so it's time to let it go.
Thank you,
Jill

I have seen this model now on the Olympic site. Does it have the
electronic controller?
Do you know about taxes and duties when crossing the border?
Thanks.

Susan,
I live in the same city as Jill, I've spoken to her on the phone.
She's very nice. I've considered buying the kiln, but my true dream
is to build a comparable one.
Anyways, as I'm sure you've found here is the information:
2327H 23 3/8" diameter 27" deep 7 cf max cone 10
240 volts (single phase) 47 amps 11280 watts
recommended 60 amp breaker.
This kiln is right on the boundary of legal for my property. I have
100 amp service, and with the regulations in my city I must have an
overhead if everything in the house were to be on. An electriciian
worked it out for me and he said it was right on the edge. The
problem is I have only 8 gauge wire going to the subpanel that I would
connect it to, I would have to pay the electrician to snake a new 6
gauge to the garage. You can do this yourself, but it is inadvisable
since you can cause friction burns on the cable and have problems. In
my opinion, it's just better to let professionals to do it.
I haven't gone to see Jill and look at the kiln, but I don't think it
has the electronic controller, that would be the 2327HE.
Here's my question for the group. And Jill if she can answer it. If
one were to take out the middle section, it would presumably be a 4.7
or so cf kiln. A very good size for me. Does the kiln have three
independent circuits for each section? My much smaller olympic, has
two independent circuits, one for each section. What would be the
amperage of this? It seems that it should then be a 7500 watt kiln
which puts it at around 32 amps. Is that correct? Is it that easy?
I haven't been able to find any online information on this. Does
anybody know? And, what is the depth of each section?
Can anybody tell me if the kiln can be safely fired while removing the
middle section?
Thank you very much.
Mark.
