I think that reference was to Kuan (Guan) ware, and not tenmoku. In the
original edition of Those Celadon Blues you can see the relevant
illustration in Figure 9.7 "Cross section of Kuan sherd comparing
thickness of glaze and body to the thickness of a dime."
