Hello Lads,
Would anyone know of a book or website where I could
access a large selection of low fire recipes.
Here's my dilema. As a tiling contractor I've always disliked high fired
tiles. They're just too hard to work with. So as a tile maker I make low
fired tiles (cone 04 - 1060 o c) but all of the glazes I like are in the
stoneware temperature group. What's a boy to do ?
Thank you in advance.
Kier.

A "side effect" of off-list messages is that "we" often repeat what has =3D
been said. So, Annapoorna, I apologize if you have already been told =3D
all this...
Your reply to Steve Mills' apt question about your firing temperatures =3D
sent me to my books.. I checked out the cone temperatures and 900 =3D
degrees C is Seger cone 010a or just between Orton 010 and 011. The =3D
1000 degrees C is a Seger 05a and just between an Orton 07 and 06.=3D20
I found several possibilities in Behrens's "Ceramic Glazemaking" but =3D
this is no real help as I doubt many on ClayArt know what materials are =
=3D
available to you.
As lead is definitely out, as a flux, boron based frits and cullet =3D
(ground glass) come to mind as possibilities. So could you tell us: Can =
=3D
you get frits? What materials do you have? I am sure you have clay and =3D
silica...but what else. More information should help us narrow down =3D
your testing.
Also this: While we have been talking earthenware a lot, I know that =3D
much folk pottery is made of undoctored local clay, and fired to =3D
whatever temperature
is feasible. Much of the resultant pottery remains, however, =3D
"underfired" when measured from the standards we,here, have for =3D
earthenware.
So how hard does the earthenware you use become?
(My one pot from India is a factory product a friend brought back!) =3D
Here I apologize again, this time for ignorance.

Annapoorna,
You might want to look at Raku glazes for your found clays. If
you search on the web, you can find many recipes. Look up TAK Fat
White. It is my standby. It would be easily adjustable to 900*C
