Home Depot and $5 gets you a new bucket w/lid.
And yes, I do throw my old crusty buckets out. My time is worth more than
that!

My question, this time, is:
How can you clean old glaze buckets that have a crusty film on them? My RR
floating blue has left behind a hard deposit that is impossible to soak or
scrub off. I also tried a cloth soaked with vinegar. No luck. Any ideas?

I've found if you get the water hot enough it does the trick. Just fill
the bucket with hot water and let it sit.

Thanks for the advice on cleaning old buckets. I did have some luck using
hot water (boiling hot) and a heavy scrubbie. Had to use the corner of an
old credit card for some spots. Offlist, I got the recommendation of using
lye but I'm too chicken to mess with it. I did not try soaking with vinegar,
(another offlist suggestion), as I didn't think it was worth going out to
buy 5 gallons of vinegar to try it.
I realize that it is a time investment to clean old buckets. It's not the
money- I get my buckets for free from the co-op. I just don't want to add
any more plastic to the landfills if I can help it.

I'm with Carol on this. The only time buckets get tossed is when they
degrade and start cracking....and yes, they DO if you keep them long
enough!
