David Leach did a workshop for me when I taught at Bellevue Art Museum
School in Bellevue, Washington in 1980.
He was kind and gentle and generous. Gave all of his formulas and
showed everything he made in is studio and answered the questions with
a grace and willingness to help the questioner
come to understand the answer and never talked down to anyone.

I will treasure the memory of him and the lesson that he taught to
teachers and students alike in his workshop. He will be missed but
not forgotten. I think of him every time I gaze at the pots he made
that are in my dining room.

Doing changes on my weblog, I found an article related to David
Leach I saved over a year ago. I think it illuminates why what David's
father did resonates with many potters.

You can read it here:

or

D. Leach quote from article:

`There's too much novelty-seeking. Novelty is here today and gone
tomorrow. If my pot is good I want it to be good for me, good for the
people who see it and good for a thousand years.'
