randall electric potters' wheel tractor seat

updated thu 24 mar 05

In a recent burglary of my studio, the tractor seat from my Randall wheel
was stolen. Does anyone have a spare one sitting around, or do you know
where I might find a replacement?

John Rodgers on sun 6 mar 05

Gordon, I've been looking for one of those Cast Iron tractor seats myself.

The local Gateway Computer store had about 25 stools made up with them,
but they would not tell me where they came from, and now the place is
closed. So I still don't know where to get them.

Anybody???

Thanks,

John Rodgers

I looked up "tractor seat" on google and there are thousands of places
selling tractor parts. I did find this one that you might find interesting too. It
appears to be a stool used by drummers that's adjustable with a tractor seat.

DW 9000 Series Hardware - 9120M

I also looked up these seats on ebay and they have 354 currently available.
A lot of them are the cast iron type and they're pretty cheap.

I did a Google on "yesterdays tractors"--lotsa hits on old tractor sites
(and parts).

On the first one listed (ytmag.com) I searched for "seats" and found
several "pan seats"--not cast iron, but stamped steel. But this oughta be
an avenue for your search.

This also strikes me as the kind of thing you might get free via a
local "freecycling" group (thanks to Lela Martens for mentioning this
in a recent posting).

http://www.freecycle.org/ has links to local message boards for
finding / giving such stuff.

Oops, try:

http://www.lehmans.com/

and type seats in their search. It's an old time farmers supply.

Mr. Randall still sell parts for his wheel. I've heard that he takes some
time to reply to a message. You can leave him a message at 585 288 0982. I
left a message but he didn't return my call. I hope you find a seat.

Hi again,

Tom Randall just returned my call after some weeks and after my almost
thinking I wouldn't hear from him. He sounds very nice and eager to help. I
too had asked about a tractor seat and in his messsage to me he said he had
them for $65 and that shipping would be 10% of the price. He also said that
if I wanted a list of items and prices to call back and leave my full name
and mailing address. Looks like a seat is available and for less than I
would have expected. Again, his number is 585 288 0982. Again, good luck.

Victoria

P.S. I had been trying to find a Randall wheel but now know that,
unfortunately, I can't manage transporting such heavy, bulky wheel. If
anyone reading this knows of someone selling a used electric wheel, I've
been looking for some time. In an ideal world I'd love to find a Brent C.
I live in North Central Vermont. I can be reached at 802 229 0090 or
zuzoopetal(at)yahoo.com.
