Orton says that if a firing is interrupted below 200 degrees F. from
maturity, the cones can be re-used. If the cones are fired to within 200
degrees of maturity, they form a hard shell and should not be re-used.
It would be interesting to experiment by placing partially fired cones next
to fresh cones.
