Dear Friends -
Hank Murrow arrived here at the Craft Center last night, fresh from =
NCECA. He'll be here for a two-week visiting artist stint, all fired =
up by the inspiration and regeneration provided by NCECA. Actually, =
that's a bit deceptive, because Hank is ALWAYS all fired up. During his =
stay he'll be working hard, cranking out his beautiful wares, doing soda =
firings, but he'll also be interacting with my students, and what a =
pleasure that is, with me in severely-limited-activity mode in a =
wheelchair. =20
We still have plenty of room in Hank's workshop the weekend after next. =
This is a Friday, Saturday, Sunday workshop, running 3:00 to 9:00 PM on =
Friday April 1, and Saturday and Sunday April 2 & 3 from 9:00 to 4:00. =
If you can't get there until a little later on Friday afternoon that's =
not a problem. This a great opportunity available for a very reasonable =
price. There's plenty of inexpensive motels in the area, and most =
things around here are generally inexpensive. For more information on =
Hank's workshop and to register, go to =
http://www.tntech.edu/craftcenter/wkshops/spring/april.html. Don't miss =
the chance to learn from one of the best potters I know. Hank is a =
highly inventive, creative potter who has come with better ways of doing =
so many things, and he is incredibly generous in sharing all of his =
tricks and techniques with others. No matter what kind of work you do, =
you can learn a lot from Hank, and you will really enjoy his company. =20
I'll be around a lot on that weekend, and it would be great to see a =
bunch of Clayarters there. If you know other potters who might be =
interested, please spread the word. Our annual Celebration of Craft =
will occur on Saturday of that weekend (April 2), from 10 to 5 and there =
will be all sorts of things going on all day, including craft sale, live =
music, food booths, studio demos, silent auction, gallery exhibitions, =
information booths, and more. We generally get a few thousand people =
showing up, and it is great fun. For more information about this year's =
Celebration of Craft go to =
http://www.tntech.edu/craftcenter/celebration.html
Hope to see lots of you here weekend after next. =20

Vince - I'm confused. I was registered for Hank's workshop, but Gail
Gentry called me yesterday (Tuesday) to tell me the workshop had been
cancelled. Now in today's Clayart digest, your post appears promoting the
workshop. What's up? If the workshop's still on, I would sure like to
attend.
And, BTW, your original post of the same message did appear in the Clayart
digest that I read Monday morning.

Carol -
Sounds like a mistake or misunderstanding. The workshop has not been
cancelled. I'd sure like to see a few more participants, though. It's a
great opportunity to spend a few days with Hank Murrow. He's threatening to
give each participant a free teabowl. He did demos today for my advanced
students, and kept them all enthralled both with his work and with his
fabulous stories.
