Praseodymium is sold as Mason 6450, though that is not PURE UP, but a =
stain. Several other Mason stains also contain UP. Try in varying =
doses in different glazes.

There is a wonderful children's story about the King coming to the =
little village. After the King with his huge retinue rode through town =
all the people got together in the square to talk about the wonderful =
day. "Oh" cried the hatter, " Did you see his HAT! Speaking of plumes =
(and on and on). The policemen could not stop praising the halberds and =
spikes, the tailor could not get enough of the King's cloak, the draper =
had never seen such velvet....ETC. All the reviews of NCECA were like =
that...everyone seeing and loving/hating according to what they came =
for. HOWEVER: what happened with the woman and the nursing babe?

As to long and smoking--missed explanation of that. Here we go again. =
Bernard Leach, K. Pleydell Bouverie, Hamada had private funds. I would =
not be surprised if Marguerite Wildenhain had restitution money from =
Germany. Rubens had a private fortune, as did Toulouse-Lautrec. =
Rembrandt and Vermeer did not. Wm Morris did. WHAT does this have to =
do with anything.

I could quote myself-- I wrote a CM Comment already 20 years ago, about =
this obsession with how potters earn a living. Now it is people on =
pensions, or people whose turnip farm was bought by a developer for =
Gazillions, and such. SO WHAT? We have/have had potters who earn a =
good wage as college profs, or other teaching. We have/have had potters =
who lived with and off a spouse/partner who paid the big bills. We =
have/have had women on alimony, people on disability, not to mention =
the child that has its own. SO WHAT?

On our present list Vince and Louis are professors. Tom Sawyer is an =
MD. Howard Axner owns and runs AXNER'S. Bonnie Hellman (God bless =
her, especially in April) is an accountant. SO WHAT?

This always has been. It is simply not to the point. And that gets me =
back to the other rehashed theme. I am with those who think that some =
$120,000 paid for learning to pot is absurd. I think "we" got an =
excellent education at SAC when it was a two year school, and Ohio =
State. Alfred, R I School of Design and so on--schools that took two =
years, or, if 4, included an education in the humanities, and off we =
went. If a young person came to me and asked I would say take about =
$60,000 of that money buy a coupla acres and put up a simple house, and =
a simple studio. Get a job of some sort, plenty of people live off =
simple jobs and POT. If after a few years you know that this is the =
life you want, go learn what you need to learn. However.

This pseudo conflict between having money and not is illogical. A =
person needs enough to live on. Getting started as a craftsperson takes =
time, and it is nice to eat and live under a roof in this period. One =
can do it at a subsistence level. Swell. But why begrudge wealth to =
others? I do not think those who started as hobbyists turn out more =
hooha than those who didn't. I do not thin
